ABOUT
EL HADI FEKROUNI
After earning my high school diploma in physical sciences—a choice shaped more by family expectations than personal passion—I found myself at a pivotal crossroads. It was then that a childhood memory resurfaced: in primary school, I would spend hours drawing during class. One day, a teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. Without hesitation, I answered, “a painter.”
That moment, though simple, held something deeply honest. Years later, it became the compass guiding me back to my true path. I enrolled at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan, where I developed my visual language and deepened my commitment to painting, graduating as a laureate in 2021.
My work is intimately tied to my personal story. Since adolescence, solitude has been a constant companion—sometimes heavy, sometimes luminous. Rather than escape it, I’ve chosen to explore it, to understand it. My paintings are rooted in this emotional landscape. They capture moments of stillness and introspection, reflecting the quiet power of being alone with oneself.
Yet I do not paint solitude to evoke melancholy. I seek to transform it. Through imagined, dreamlike environments—silent nature, vast horizons, poetic spaces—I create sanctuaries. These places offer refuge, inviting the viewer into a world where solitude becomes serenity, and isolation becomes a form of quiet transcendence.
Painting is not just something I do—it is something I need. It is my balance, my anchor, my way of being in the world. Without it, life feels abstract and hollow. With it, everything makes sense. It’s more than a passion—it’s a lifeline.
