SHAMA SEKNAOUI
ABOUT
SHAMA SEKNAOUI
Shama Seknaoui is a visual artist and fashion designer based in Casablanca, Morocco, a city that deeply inspires her creative universe. Originally from Casablanca, she began her artistic journey with a baccalaureate in Applied Arts, where she earned the highest national
score. She later pursued fine arts, developing a multidisciplinary practice that merges painting, illustration, and fashion design.
Over the years, she has taken part in numerous competitions and exhibitions in both the visual arts and fashion fields.
Her work explores the tension between the real and the surreal, inviting viewers into dreamlike spaces shaped by memory, social observation, and imagination. At the heart of her artistic approach is the human figure — not as an individual, but as a symbol of the self, the other, and the collective. Her characters often seem lost in thought, adrift in the chaos of everyday life, searching for meaning or escape.
Inspired by artists such as René Magritte and Salvador Dalí, Seknaoui blends visual poetry with symbolic forms, often drawing from childhood memories, games, and familiar scenes.
For her, life is a grand theatre or a vast playground — a place of roles, rules, and randomness.
She plays with graphic shapes and patterns rooted in daily life to create compositions that are
at once intimate and universal.
Through both her visual art and fashion design, Shama Seknaoui tells stories of identity,
disillusionment, and resilience — always with a light touch of irony and a deep sense of
humanity.
